Big Little Plans? – Redistricting might make sense for Winthrop

We understand that there may be some redistricting in the works in Little League because of the imbalance in the regional districts. Some districts have substantially more teams than others. Winthrop is currently in one of the most competitive districts (District 16) with such teams as Lynnfield, Saugus (American and National), Lynn (five programs), Nahant, and Revere. Whether Winthrop should return to its former District 10 roots and play teams such as Chelsea, East Boston, and Charlestown, and Revere (a former District 10 member) is something that our Little League leaders will have to weigh in on as discussions ensue.

But it’s not equitable when some districts have as few as six or eight teams and Winthrop is in a 14-team district and District 15 (Peabody, Danvers, etc.) has 21 teams. Let’s level the playing field and give all teams in the area an equal chance to get to Williamsport.
