Police Briefs 03-17-2011

Tuesday, March 8

9:19 a.m. – Alarm company called reporting a fire alarm sounding at an Upland Road address. Unit reports no answer at the home. Fire Department will force entry. No fire reported.

10:55 a.m. – The department assists the Attorney General’s office in a matter on Prospect Avenue.

12:22 p.m.  A party called report that there is an individual driving his vehicle around the area of Lewis and Washington Avenues and going through people’s backyards. A police unit reports no activity ongoing in the area.

1:56 p.m. – Caller reports a man is cutting down a tree in front of 368 Main Street. Unit reports area clear.

2:06 p.m. – Caller reports parents are parked illegally on Overlook Drive making it impossible for the elderly residents to exit in their cars. Unit reports traffic is moving and the vehicle will be free.

2:09 p.m. Caller from the area of Buchanan Street at Pleasant Street reports that a big electrical box is exposing wires. WFD notified. Unit reports that the box has been secured.

2:32 p.m. – Caller from Washington Avenue area reports that a Mack truck is parked on the sidewalk causing a hazard. Unit reports a minivan was parked on the sidewalk and it is moved.

3:13 p.m. – Party called to report she found a gun on the beach. Unit reports he has taken custody of a pellet gun.

7:37 p.m. Party from Sea Foam Avenue called to report an unregistered motor vehicle that he bought is missing from the driveway in the last three hours. Caller thinks it may have been taken by an individual who was involved in a previous incident at the apartment. Caller reports the keys are missing as well.

7:59 p.m. – First caller reports that there may be someone struck by a motor vehicle on Shore Drive. Additional caller reports that it may be an animal that was struck. Officers report that a dog has been struck by a vehicle. Owner is on scene and K-9 unit notified.

Wednesday, March 9

6:38 a.m. – Caller reports that a neighbor let his dog out and the person feels that the neighbor is doing so purposely to annoy her. A discussion of this ongoing issue is requested with the Animal Control Officer.

7:54 a.m. Officer assisted traffic entering and exiting the Gorman/Fort Banks School zone.

8:27 a.m. – Party reports two vehicles are parked at least three feet from the curb in a strange manner at the corner of Pleasant Street and Waldemar Avenue. Officer reports both motor vehicles are parked at least three feet from the corner. Both motor vehicles receive tickets.

11:33 a.m. – Party reports of observing a male in a hooded sweatshirt and camo pants just tried a door on Lincoln Street across the street. He continued on his way walking toward Pleasant Street. Officer searched the area to no avail.

1:26 p.m. – Party reports disabled motor vehicle in a bad spot on Winthrop Street. Officer reports Shamrock Towing on the scene for a motor vehicle with a flat tire.

9:38 p.m. – Caller reports upstairs neighbors are making noise on Shirley Street. Unit reports quieting the situation.

Thursday, March 10

2:08 a.m. – A series of directed patrols begin throughout the town begin and continue for the next hour. All areas reported clear and quiet.

10:09 a.m. – Officer stopped operator of a motor vehicle for violations on Washington Avenue. The individual is cited for speeding.

11:14 a.m. – Visiting nurse requests that an officer respond to an Overlook Drive residence for a person check. The party is not answering the door and there are some meals left outside the door. Winthrop Housing Authority is notified and will send someone with a key. Officer reports the party was safe inside but sleeping.

2:53 p.m. – Party reports a motor vehicle is parked on the sidewalk at Highland Avenue and is obstructing access by the public. Officer located the owner and had it moved.

4:17 p.m. – A series of directed patrols begin and continue through 6:35 p.m. All areas are reported as quiet.

9:36 p.m. – The operator of a motor vehicle on Ocean View Street is stopped for a wrong way violation. One of the people involved is taken into custody for unlicensed operation.

Friday, March 11

9:49 a.m. – Party reports a truck on the sidewalk near a business on Putnam Street.

12:50 p.m. – A person walks into the police station and reports an incident of fraud.

4:21 p.m. – All areas are reported clear during directed patrols that continue through 7:36 p.m.

10:51 p.m. – Caller reports hit and run on Buchanan Street. Small blue motor vehicle was involved in the hit and run. No other description. A note is left for the owner of the vehicle that was hit.

Saturday, March 12

12:28 a.m. – Caller reports a crash in front of his Veterans Road residence. Officers request EMS to check operator. Officer request G and J Towing.

9:18 a.m. – An individual came in to the station to report that a blue truck was vandalized. Someone went around the entire truck and keyed the paint.

9:58 a.m. – Caller from Governors Drive reports that the passenger’s side window was broken. No items were missing from vehicle.

11:53 a.m. – Party reports a syringe on the ground near the car vacuum on the gas pump side at a Shirley Street station. Officer picked up the item and disposed of it.

2:58 p.m. – A verbal warning is given to an operator of a motor vehicle on Veterans Road at Shirley Street who had been stopped for a violation.

3:56 p.m. – Party reports kids riding bicycles through the patrons entering and exiting stores at Michael’s Mall.

6:33 p.m. – Caller reports a woman chasing her dog down the street on Washington Avenue. Animal Control Officer responds to assist.

7:09 p.m. – Caller requests an ambulance for a drug overdose. Unite responded with WFD and ambulance. Officer reports individual refused transportation by ambulance.

7:51 p.m. – A unit is requested to the gazebo at Ingleside Park for possible drug activity/

9:17 p.m. – Caller from Cliff Avenue reports that sometime within the last hour a small poodle mixed breed dog escaped from his yard.
