More than a few Town Hall observers were stunned by the resignation of Clerk to the Town Council Leighanne  Strangie, whose letter of resignation was read at Tuesday’s Council meeting. Mrs.Strangie had been appointed in December following Town ClerkCarla Vitale’s decision to step down from the position.

We thank Mrs. Strangie for her service to the town and the professionalism she demonstrated in her very important role in town government. Some have suggested the $5,200 stipend for the position isn’t commensurate with the volume of work and the hours necessary to perform the job to the highest level possible.

The salary issue likely will be discussed by the Council as it sets out to appoint its third clerk in a relatively short period of time.
