Community Members to Be Honored at Chamber Awards Night Jan. 27

The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce will hold its 21st annual Kick-Off Dinner and Awards Night on Friday, January 27 as a way to recognize those who work for the betterment of our community, and to launch the year with their new leadership team. The elegant Hyatt Harborside at Logan Airport will once again host this event. The 2012 award recipients include many impressive honorees.

This year’s Patriot Award recipient is Mike Hammerman who will be honored for his dedication keeping the Five Sisters flag flying proudly over Winthrop Beach for over ten years. Mary McGunigle, a reading teacher at the Cummings Elementary School, will receive the 2012 Educational Excellence award. Winthrop High School juniors David Tracy and Erin O’Leary have been named recipients of the Youth Leadership award. Sheryl Queen of Twist & Shake will receive the 2012 Chamber Member of the Year award. Committed to helping beautify the town, Elliot Whittier Insurance will be receiving the Visual Achievement award. Roseann Mazzuchelli will receive the Community Service award, recognizing her involvement with Winthrop youth. The Town Service award will go to MaryLou Osborne, former chairwoman of the School Committee. Receiving the 2012 Coach of the Year Award will be state champion Winthrop High School boys basketball coach Dave Brown. David Limina has been named recipient of the Excellence in the Arts award for his work in the music field. Receiving the Lifetime Achievement award will be Charlie and Debbie Tewksbury, owners of Tewksbury’s Greenhouses, beautifying Winthrop since 1885. The recently renovated and expanded Hong Kong Dragon will receive the 2012 Business of the Year award.

The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to a wonderful evening at the Hyatt Harborside at Logan Airport on January 27. Reception is at 6:30, dinner is at 8:00 p.m. All are invited to come and enjoy a wonderful evening honoring those making a difference. Dinners are $45.00 per person.
