Jim Crowley

Born: October 17, 1947 in Los Angeles, CA

Died: June 27, 2013 in Winthrop, MA

Family and Friends of Jim Crowley, lately of Hawthorn Avenue Winthrop, (Social Worker, Casino Manager, Cook, World Traveler, Poet, Conversationalist, Voracious Reader, Sports Fan, Cyclist, Winthrop Enthusiast and more…) are cordially invited to his Memorial on October 5 at 11 a.m. at the AMVETS Patriot Room at 155 Veterans Road, Winthrop.

Jim’s family is coming in from out of town so all assistance in making this celebration memorable is deeply appreciated. Suggestions for items to bring: stories, poems, art, curios, photos, instruments and/or songs to display or share. A potted mum (Winthrop Marketplace or Stop & Shop plan to have some) would help brighten the Patriot Room. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early if bringing materials to display. Ann Silva

Lifelong Revere Resident

Ann (DiStefano) Silva of Revere died after a brief illness at the Kaplan Family Hospice House of Danvers on Monday, September 23. She was 85 years old.

Born and raised in Revere, she attended Revere Schools.

She was the cherished mother of Jacqueline “Jackie” Sasso of Revere and the late Michael J. Hare; the devoted grandmother of David J. Sasso of Danvers and Lawrence J. Guarino, III of Revere. She is also lovingly survived by her great grandson, David J. Sasso, Jr. She was the beloved companion of the late Daniel Cash of Winthrop and the sister of the late Josephine Natola, John DiStefano and Jean Rich.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, September 28 in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by a Memorial Funeral Service in the Funeral Home at 4:15 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later time at Winthrop Cemetery. Timothy Driscoll

Retired Roofer and Member of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club

Timothy R. Driscoll of Winthrop passed away at the Beth Israel Hospital on September 20. He was 62 years old.

Tim was a member of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club in Winthrop. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a roofer for K&K Contractors.

Born in Boston, he was the cherished son of the late Francis and Margaret L. (Cox) Driscoll; dear brother of Nancy (Driscoll) Grace of Winthrop, Mary Varone and her husband, Anthony of Holliston, Thomas Driscoll and his wife, Robin of Saugus, Edward and David Driscoll, both of Winthrop and the late Francis and James Driscoll. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, Winthrop. A Funeral Mass was held in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop. Interment was in Winthrop Cemetery. Joan Cox

Longtime Winthrop Resident

Joan E. Cox, a longtime resident of Winthrop, passed away in New York City on August 11. She was 79 years old.

Born in Winthrop, the loving daughter of the late Richard E. Cox and the late Alice E. (Budreau) Burns of Winthrop, she attended Winthrop Schools. graduated from Winthrop High School, Class of 1951 and also attended Burdett College.

She is survived by her children: Martin Fernandes and Roger Fernandes and his wife, Joanne, all of Brockton, Ronald Fernandes and his wife, Sharon of South Weymouth, Sandra Fee of Taunton, Jack Fernandes of Boston, Evinas Fernandes of Florida, Yvonne Fernandes of Idaho and Arnold Fernandes of New Hampshire. She was the dear sister of the late Richard D. Cox and his wife, Marilyn of Wilmington, Robert E. Cox and his wife, Cheryl of Florida and Linda Burns-Allen of Beverly. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves her dear aunt Barbara MacEachern of Winthrop and her devoted friends, Yvonne, Arthur and Joseph Range of Brooklyn, NY. She was predeceased by her dear friend Marcella Range, also of Brooklyn, NY.

Graveside services were conducted at the Cross Street Section of the Winthrop Cemetery on September 20. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be donated to the Viking Pride Foundation, Inc., PO Box 27, Winthrop, MA 02152. Arrangements are by the Joseph R. Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop.
