Jo Pino, owner of Boston Hollywood Hair in Winthrop, auditioned on April 17 in Cambridge to be a contestant on the ABC-TV show, “Shark Tank.”

The television show asks contestants to present inventions in the hope that one of the show’s judges will provide funding to market, develop, and patent the product.

Jo Pino’s invention is a Zbelt, which is a belt that provides holistic support for people with back ailments. The Zbelt can also help prevent back injuries.

Jo Pino invented the Zbelt following his career as a New England heavyweight boxing champion. He has provided Zbelts for celebrities including actor Sean Penn, hair stylist Giuseppe Franco, WWE wrestling star Lita,  former world boxing champions Vinnie Pazienza and John Ruiz, actor Frank Stallone and ballet star Larissa Ponomarenko.

Producers of the Shark Tank informed Jo Pino that he is under strong consideration for a spot on the show.

“I’m hoping that the judges, which include Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, will consider investing in my product if I’m fortunate enough to appear on the show,” said Jo Pino. “This has been a goal of mine for 15 years: to have people use my Zbelts to look good and feel good.”

Jo Pino has appeared as an extra in Boston-based movies and has landed a role in a possible television pilot. He recently had the opportunity to meet Lisa Marie Presley at her concert in the Boston area. He had previously met Lisa Marie during a tour of Elvis Presley’s Graceland mansion in Memphis.

Jo Pino is known for his local hairstyling of celebrity clients including television personality and author Michelle McPhee
