Robert Kiernan Benson

Boston Globe Retiree,Member of Winthrop VFW

Robert Kiernan Benson died Monday, August 4 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was 86 years old.

Born in Chelsea, he was the husband of the late Jeanne Viglione and the son of the late Herman A. and Anna J. (Morley) Benson.

He was a graduate of Winthrop High School and started his newspaper career working for Clarence Poole in the Winthrop News Company and then worked for 40 years for the Boston Globe. He was an active member of the Mailers Union in Boston. Mr. Benson was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the VFW Post in Winthrop.

He leaves his brother, Andrew L. Benson of Amesbury, two sons, Bruce McIntyre of Saugus and Robert Benson of Lynn; and two daughters, Patricia McCarthy of Tewksbury and Ann Mary Benson of Saugus. He was the brother of the late Charles A. Benson, Patricia Mastrangelo and Herman W. Benson.

Services were held on August 8. Donations in his memory may be sent to the Lahey Clinic, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01803.

Sabrina Feudo

Passes away suddenly

Sabrina L. Feudo of Atlantic Street, Winthrop passed away suddenly at the Massachusetts General Hospital on August 10. She was 11 years old.

Born in Melrose, she was the beloved daughter of Jacqueline (Bigley) and Michael Feudo both of Winthrop; the dear sister of Max Feudo of Winthrop and the cherished granddaughter of Anthony and Marcella Feudo and Jack and Joanne Bigley all of Winthrop. She was the beloved niece of Stephen Bigley of Winthrop and Susan and Michael Mattera of East Boston. She is also the great granddaughter of Enise Capobianco and Mary Chiulli both of Winthrop.

The Funeral Mass will be held today, Thursday, August 14 in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the mass in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery. John Verrengia

Lead Singer for Johnny Vee and the Moon Liters and All American Commander of Beachmont VFW 6711

John P. Verrengia of Revere died on August 10.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he was the All American Commander at the Beachmont VFW 6711 and a member of the DAV. Music was John’s passion, he was the lead singer for Johnny Vee and the Moon Liters.

He was the beloved husband of Florence R. (Scifo) of Revere; devoted father of John J. Verrengia and his wife, Alberta of Revere, Marianne Buzun and her husband, Fran of Saugus and Rosalie Serena and her husband, Randy of Centerville; dear brother of Thomas Verrengia of Saugus and the late Arthur, Joseph, his twin Anna Dupree, Benny, Tony, Margaret Ferrairo and Mary Mazzola; cherished grandfather of Joseph Buzun and Joshua Verrengia and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs, Krystal and Becky.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church (Winthrop) on Saturday, August 16 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
