Annual Town Report is Out

Each year the town of Winthrop publishes an annual report, full of everything the town departments do from voting to budgets and permits to crime. The 2015 Annual Report just came out and there are a few interesting tidbits to note.

In the building department there were 506 building permits issues during fiscal year 2015, which ran from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.

From the senior center it was reported that there are 120 home-bound people in Winthrop who receive Meals on Wheels. The outreach coordinator there made home visits to 128 senior residents.

From the fire department there were 3,009 calls for emergencies.

In the health department, there were 23 cases of Hepatitis C reported; 41 cases of influenza; and three cases of active tuberculosis; two cases of Lyme Disease.

From the library department it was reported that there were over 60,000 visits to the library and 68,000 items were checked out and Dolores the Dinosaur was made at home in the Children’s Room.

There were 6,248 parking tickets issued, bringing in over $270,000 in revenue. In the police department there were 8,297 calls for service; 192 arrests; and 305 towed vehicles.

From the Department of Public Works, over 4,800 tons of trash was collected by the town’s contractor; over 81 tons of waste were collected by the town; in the cemetery department there were 122 interments,

There are 840 employees in Winthrop, 310 town employees and 530 in the schools. There are 184

In the School Department there were 2,009 students and only 12 students participated in the School Choice program.
