Holiday Lighting Festival Set for Friday in Center

Ring in the season this Friday in Winthrop Center for the Chamber of Commerce’s 24st annual Holiday Lighting Festival from 3:00-6:00 p.m. The Holiday Lighting Festival is the kickoff of Winthrop Small Business Weekend. Spend Local. Eat Local. Shop Local. Enjoy Local. Many of our businesses will be offering specials and discounts from Friday through Sunday.

A fan-favorite Mike Bent of “Abrakidabra” sponsored by Paul W. Marks Co., Inc., will bring his bag of tricks to town the day after Thanksgiving.  The “Abrakidabra” show starts at 4:00 and features a mix of comedy and magic.

In addition to Mike Bent, there will be lots of great live entertainment starting at 3 pm. Enjoy live performances by Cervizzi’s Martial Arts Academy, Winthrop Girl Scouts singing with our holiday characters. Thank you to Balloon City for use of the costumes.  Jessica Gordon’s School of Performing Arts, The Winthrop School of Performing Arts singing and dancing, John & Lori Wadkins and students all performing holiday entertainment to kick off the holiday season.  The traditional children’s hat contest will be at 5:15 pm with prizes for the most Patriotic Holiday Hat, Best use of Recycled Materials Hat, and most Ridiculous Holiday Hat, followed by the announcement of the Coloring Contest Winners.

Take a free photo with Santa Claus in French Square from 3:00 – 4:30, courtesy of Webster First Federal Credit Union.  There will also be games to play from 3:00 – 5:00 in the Center. Making special appearances this year will be Bumble from “Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer.” The Grinch, Frosty, Dalli, The Dalmatian, and Teddie, The Bear. Lots of tasty treats will be available that day too. WCAT will be making cotton candy.  There will be many businesses sponsoring raffles and give-a-ways.

nta Claus arrives on the fire engine, with Rudolph. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be leading the procession, from the center fire station for the tree lighting at 5:30. Then, the raffle drawing for $250 in Winthrop Gift Certificates, sponsored by The 11 Foundation, takes place, where the winner must be present.
