CITIZEN AWARDS ON JANUARY 30

The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce will be recognizing several people during the Community Awards Dinner Saturday night, January 30 at the Hyatt Harborside.

The Business of the Year recipient is East Boston Neighborhood Health Center.

Being recognized for his service to the Town is Fire Chief Paul Flanagan. The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce Member of the Year is Paul W. Marks, Co. The Community Service award goes to Eleanor Govoni. Coach of the Year is Tracey Martucci. The Educational Excellence Award goes to Janice Denehy. The Lifetime Achievement award will be awarded to David Goll. The Youth Leadership Award goes to Elizabeth Carsley and Hunter Gillis. The Excellence in Arts award goes to Brenda Curry and the Patriot Award will be given to Richard Oliveira.

WINTER PREPAREDNESS

With a good size snow storm being predicted, here are some tips from the CDC via the Winthrop Health Department for winter preparedness:

  • Keep your gas tank in your car full to avoid frozen fuel lines.
  • Install a carbon monoxide detector.
  • Make sure your smoke detectors have working batteries.
  • Never leave lit candles or other flames unattended.
  • Bring pets indoors as temperatures fall.
  • Have your chimney and flue inspected every year.
  • Dress warm to avoid frostbite.
  • Avoid getting wet to prevent hypothermia.
  • If power lines are down call emergency services.
  • If power lines fall on your car do not touch the lines or the car.
  • Keep an emergency kit in your car.
  • Clear snow/ice from the tail pipe of your car.
