James Gallo, Sr.

Of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

James G. Gallo, Sr. of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died peacefully at home with his loving family by his bedside on February 16.

He was the beloved husband for over 61 years to Adelaid (Mastrangelo) Gallo; devoted father of Margie Hughes and her husband, Peter of Braintree, Karen Donnelly and her late husband, John, Christine Gallo, Jim Gallo and his wife, Kathy, David Gallo and his wife, Karen, Diane Romano and her husband, Anthony, all of Winthrop and Andrew Gallo and his wife, Michelle of Franklin; dear brother of Nicholas Gallo of Florida; cherished grandfather of Amanda, Shauna, David, Bridget, Andy, Joseph, Matthew, Anthony, Nicholas, James, Frankand Christopher and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass in celebration of James’ life was followed by a procession to Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section) where Mr. Gallo’s ashes were interred. Judith Rutherford

Owned Winthrop Trophy

Judith A. Rutherford of Cottage Park Road, Winthrop passed away on February 20 after a brief illness. She was 81 years old.

Born in Lowell, the beloved daughter of the late Ruth (Grammer) and Henry “Elmer” Palmer, she grew up in Lowell before moving to Winthrop in 1958. After graduating from high school she went on to nursing school and after her graduation, she worked for many years at the Winthrop Community Hospital. She also worked at the Winthrop Federal Credit Union and was the former bookkeeper at the First Church of Winthrop United Methodist. She, along with her late husband, were also the proprietors of Winthrop Trophy.

She was the devoted wife of the late William J. Rutherford and the loving mother of Jill Howard and her husband, Michael of North Andover and Jay Rutherford and his wife, Lee Ann of Chicago, Illinois; the dear sister of the late Dorothy Lovejoy Webb and the cherished grandmother of William, Matthew, Victoria, Quinn, Eric, Connor and Emma.

The funeral will be conducted from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop today, Thursday, February 25 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service in the First Church of Winthrop United Methodist, 217 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m. Interment to follow the service will be in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery. Rena Edgar

Member of Winthrop Eastern Star

Rena M. Edgar of Concord, NH passed away peacefully the morning of February 17.

Born June 28, 1931 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of James and Katherine Ross and was raised in Concord, New Hampshire, she was a former Girl Scout, Rainbow Girl and over 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Concord, NH, she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Winthrop, where she spent her married years up until retirement when she and her husband returned to her home state of New Hampshire.

Her interests in crafts varied greatly with everything from sewing and painting to leather tool work and knitting – that is until she discovered her love for quilting. She was a long time member of the Ladies of the Lake Quilters Guild out of Wolfeboro, NH and enjoyed many outings, classes, field trips and workshops with the Ladies. She loved to travel and visited such wonderful places as England, Scotland, Austria, Italy and more. She enjoyed outings with the Seniors and loved to attend the theatre whenever possible. She was a big supporter of the Interlakes Summer Theatre Program in Meredith, NH and purchased a season ticket each year showing her support of the arts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orrin F. Edgar of Winthrop, on April 19, 2004, and her daughter, Sharon L. Edgar who died on October 12, 1988. She leaves behind her children: Stephen R. Edgar of Bonney Lake, WA, James W. Edgar and wife, Stacey of Goffstown, NH and Laura M. Edgar of Colorado Springs, CO. She also leaves behind her two grandchildren, Alicia K. Edgar and Ryan W. Edgar of Goffstown, NH.

A graveside memorial service and internment will be held for the immediate family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Care for Rena and her family has been entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord, NH.
