Elliot Whittier Insurance to Hold Free Infant & Child Car Seat Inspection Event

Elliot Whittier Insurance will again be hosting a FREE Infant & Child Car Seat Inspection event at its Winthrop location.  Attendees will be able to have their infant or child car seat checked to make sure that it is installed correctly.  If it is not, with the attendee’s permission, the car seat will be reinstalled by a Certified Passenger Safety Technician.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the proper use of car seats, booster seats, and seatbelts save lives.  In addition:

Car Crashes are a leading cause of death for children 1 to 13 years old

Every 34 seconds one child under the age of 13 is involved in a crash

In 2013, among children under the age of 5 in cars, an estimated 263 lives were saved by child restraints

An additional 55 children could have survived if car seat use was at 100 percent

Christine Millerick O’Keefe, Marketing & Business Development Manager for Elliot Whittier Insurance said “We started doing this back in 2009.   We get everyone from expectant parents, knowledgeable families, and even grandparents coming to insure that their child car seat is installed correctly.  I would say that 9 out of 10 times, it is not and will require a re-installation by one of the technicians.   After our fall 2015 event, we had an attendee tell us that she was in a car accident with her young daughter as a passenger.  She told us that the first responders said that her car seat did not budge.  That mom felt that coming to our car seat event likely saved her daughter from injury.  I can’t imagine any statement that could make us feel more grateful.”

Elliot Whittier CEO Steve Roy added “Helping our community and protecting our youngest citizens in any way we can is something that is an honor to be able to do.   We are very grateful for the support of The Winthrop Police Department, Chief Delehanty, Officers Racow & Carter, Mike Nicastro and the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, and Winthrop Girl Scout Troop 85250 and Troop Leader Stephanie Long for their help in making this a true community event.”

All Participants (one per vehicle) will be able to take part in a free raffle for Red Sox tickets, courtesy of Safety Insurance.  The event will take place on Saturday May 21st, 2016 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Elliot Whittier Insurance Services, LLC, 12 Revere Street, Winthrop.  “Like” the Elliot Whittier Insurance Facebook Event page for updates, photos, and news in the event of inclement weather.
