Congratulations,Peg Lyons

We join the community in congratulating Peg Lyons, executive director of the Winthrop Housing Authority, on receiving the 2016 Unsung Hero Award from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Peg Lyons has been an unsung, but vital voice for residents town-wide ensuring that those individuals who live in WHA apartments are safe, comfortable, and enjoying each day as a resident of the town. It is widely-acknowledged that Peg Lyons runs one of the most professional housing authorities in Massachusetts, executing a host of important responsibilities and overseeing a staff of employees that is as dedicated to their jobs as their leader is.

House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo personally presented the award and citation to Peg and it was great to see her husband, former Winthrop director of athletics John Lyons, and their son, WHS football player Christian Lyons, standing so proudly with Peg at the awards ceremony. State Sen. Joseph Boncore, who was such a great advocate for residents during his time chairman of the Winthrop Housing Authority, was also present at the State House and offered his congratulations to the town’s unsung hero.

Peg Lyons is passionate about her work. In a position where she oversees 400 housing units on a daily basis, there are no “off” days. Peg was humbled by the award and we admired the quote in the story about her receiving the award, “The success of any agency is made possible only by the hard work and cooperative effort and ability of many.”

Peg Lyons has been in the field of property for 30 years. She has proven to be an efficient and excellent administrator and we welcome this opportunity to join with all of our fellow residents in saying, “Thank you, Peg, and congratulations to our town’s unsung hero of 2016.”
