DELEO TO SPEAK ABOUT OPIATE ISSUE SEPT. 14

On Sept. 14 at 6:30 pm at the Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center, 35 Harvard St., Speaker DeLeo will address the community on the topic of opiates in our area and around the Commonwealth. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the recent prescription drug legislation. A community service award will be given to a Winthrop resident that has been identified as a leader in combating the stigma and social norms associated with substance misuse and addiction. Lastly, this event will highlight Winthrop’s new Recovery Coach program as well as other innovative strategies to address the prevalence of opiates in our community and creating a community conducive to healthy living.

RECOVERY ROCKS EVENT SEPT. 24

On  September 24th between 1-4 PM, CASA will host a Recovery Rocks Event at Ingleside Park that will feature a celebration of recovery through comedy, art, and music. Individuals in the recovery community are encouraged to attend and share what they use as an outlet to promote their own recovery. Food donated by various community partners including Blackstrap BBQ.

  1. VINCENT DE PAUL OFFERS ASSISTANCE

St. John the Evangelist Parish has a Saint Vincent de Paul Society Chapter. The mission of the Society is to give temporary support to parishioners and other Winthrop residents who find themselves in need. Please call 617-846-7400 if you or someone you know find yourself in need of assistance.

RECENT UPDATE ON WINTHROP BEACH RESTORATION

Here is the latest update on the work at Winthrop Beach.

  • Once utility services have been activated at the Rumney Marsh construction trailer, the Resident Engineer’s trailer at Winthrop Shore Drive will be removed.
  • Please note that street sweeping has resumed on Winthrop Shore Drive. It occurs every 3rd Thursday of the month. Please remove cars from Shore Drive in advance of street sweeping or else they will be towed.
  • Questions or concerns about the project should be directed to DCR Resident Engineer Steve Colometo, at the DCR trailer behind the DCR bathhouse on Winthrop Shore Drive, by visit or phone (617- 539-4957) during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. In case of an emergency, contact 911 or DCR’s 24/7 emergency hotline at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency at 508-820-1428.
