Parks and Recreation Has a Great Week

When winter became summer for a couple of days last week, Parks and Recreation director Sean Driscoll made a quick and smart decision: he changed the youths’ snowboarding trip to Nashoba Valley into a trip to Frog Pond on Boston Common.

And thanks to to Speaker Robert A. DeLeo, the students were able to visit the Speaker’s office and enjoy a tour of the House Chambers. Speaker DeLeo and his staff were incredibly hospitable to the Winthrop delegation, making it a fun and educational experience for the entire group.

Now if you’ve ever tried to change plans at a day’s notice after you’ve booked the trip for weeks, you know it takes a lot of work, and Sean credited his staff for changing the plans from snow tubing on the slopes of Nashoba to a day at Frog Pond and the Statehouse, notifying all of the parents of the change, and then carrying out the transportation and logistics in seamless fashion.

What a great week it was for the Parks and Recreation Department. The children also enjoyed a trip to the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence. For some of the children, it was their first visit to a zoo outside of Massachusetts and a chance to see the many animals up close — aren’t those giraffes tall?

Thank you, Sean Driscoll and staff, for providing our town’s children with a wonderful school vacation week.
