Centre Business District Infrastructure work meeting

Town Manager James McKenna and the town administration invites the public and particularly those who live or work in the Centre Business District, to attend one of two informational meetings about the proposed and planned infrastructure work that has been proposed for Winthrop Centre. The next informational meeting will be March 20 at 4 p.m. in the EB Newton Cultural Center, 131 Pauline St.

At this meeting town department heads, engineers and a representative of National Grid will be on hand to discuss the start of improvements to the public utility infrastructure in the streets surrounding French Square and the larger Centre Business District. National Grid is asking to begin their gas utility work during the week of March 27, 2017.

In an effort to provide as much information about how this work will be scheduled and completed, the town and National Grid will discuss how this work will be managed. Every effort will be made to ensure the Centre remains open, with as little interruption as possible, during construction. All information provided at the meeting will also be shared via the town website and Town Manager’s Blog.

Please attend one of these two meetings to become informed about this project and to ask questions.

Birth records won’t be available

Please be advised, as part of a preservation project to protect Winthrop’s Vital Records, beginning March 13 birth records from 2005 back to 1961 will not be available in Winthrop.

Please read the below information to become familiar with the options during this time:

Birth records are located usually in two places – the actual city/town in which the birth occurred and the city/town the child was living in at the time of birth. Therefore – one may want to contact the city in which the actual birth took place – Boston or Melrose for most of Winthrop residents.
