Peter Gill is Running for Re-Election to the Winthrop Housing Authority

When Sen. Boncore resigned his seat on the Housing Authority due to his election as Senator, Peter Gill was appointed by the Town Council and the Housing Authority jointly to fill the Senator’s unexpired term.

Peter says it has been his pleasure to serve in this position and to witness the dedication of Peg Lyons and her committed staff as they do their jobs so well caring for our residents needs and maintaining our facilities so professionally.

Peter has a long history with our housing authority. He says one of his most cherished memories as a little boy was being his father’s “little helper” including going with him on emergency night calls for service.  His father, Henry, was the maintenance man for the original Veterans housing units located on Banks Street occupied by WW II veterans and their families. He was also involved in the oversight of construction of the veterans housing units on Read, Douglas, Russell, Edward, and Pleasant Streets as well as Sunset Road housing development, at that time referred to as the “new development”. Peter, himself worked as a carpenter on the Golden Drive development construction in the late 60’s.

During his tenure as Council President, Peter was very proud to be part of the team effort between the Winthrop Housing Authority and the Town of Winthrop working together so cooperatively in the best interest of all. He says “This positive relationship doesn’t happen in all communities. Housing authorities are state agencies, while town departments are town agencies sometimes have conflicting interests. However, In Winthrop, the spirit of cooperation between our town departments and the housing authority is outstanding and commendable.”

Peter and his wife Maureen are lifelong Winthrop residents, raising their four children; Brian, Lisa, Brendan, and Gretchen here. They are the proud grandparents of 10.

Peter’s previous town service includes being a Town Meeting member, member of the Board of assessors, and most recently President of Winthrop Town Council. He also served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, is a former Member of the Winthrop Rotary, the Cottage Park Yacht Club and current a member if the Winthrop Lodge of Elks.

Peter’s professional career includes many years as a high school teacher / administrator and later as Broker/Owner of Century 21 Harbor Real Estate and owner of residential rental property owner here in Winthrop.

Peter says “I feel my professional experience and my town service, most recently as Town Council President and on the Housing Authority, give me the skills that will allow me to be effective in supporting our Housing Authority – our staff and our residents.
