Questions and Answers: An Interview with Robin Gerolamo, Owner of Winthrop’s Robin’s Nest

The following is an interview from the publication The Boston Voyager.

Robin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

It has always been a dream of mine to own my own boutique. Up until now, my career has consisted of working in positions that ‘paid the bills’ but none for which I had any real passion. About two years ago, I decided to finally take the chance and start my own business. While keeping my day job, I subleased and renovated an extremely small space on the outskirts of my town.

Being the only boutique and gift shop in town, I quickly realized there was a market for my wares, and within a few months started looking for a larger and better location. I was thrilled to find a spot in the center of town that was in a great location and the perfect size. The new location needed a complete overhaul and, following a few months of renovation, I was ecstatic to be moving my shop to its new home! I worked my full-time day job and ran the shop part-time for about 15 months.

My business took off in my new location so I finally took a leap of faith and left my day job to focus on the shop 100-percent. I am living the dream of owning my own business and, although it can be stressful and full of challenges I didn’t foresee, I am loving every minute of it! I am blessed and grateful to be able to come to work every day to a place I love to be and doing what I love to do. I am grateful for each and every one of my customers. New people walk through my door everyday and I am thrilled knowing they are finding thinks they love too. I will be celebrating a full year in my new location at the end of November and am looking forward to a bustling holiday season! Less than two years in business is minimal in the scheme of things, but given the outpouring of support from the community, I look forward to what the future holds.

Has it been a smooth road?

For the most part, it has been a surprisingly smooth road. This is uncharted territory for me and I am learning as I go. Given the fact that I am less than two years in, I have to believe there will be some struggles and many learning experiences in my future!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Robin’s Nest – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Robin’s Nest is a small boutique and gift shop located in Winthrop, Mass. The shop offers a wide variety of fine-quality jewelry, gifts, home decor, and more.

I am proud that many of our items are made in the USA, including New England, and even right here in Massachusetts.

I believe what sets Robin’s Nest apart from other shops is not only our range of carefully selected, unique merchandise, but our focus on exceptional customer service and our goal to make the shop inviting to all.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?

I love the diversity and history of Boston, the amazing restaurants, theatre, and the fact that it is walkable. I wish driving in Boston was easier!

As for Winthrop, it is a quaint seaside town with an interesting history and welcoming locals.  I am hopeful people will come to Winthrop to visit Robin’s Nest and stay to enjoy all the town has offer…great restaurants, beautiful beaches, and more!
