Winthrop Charities Comedy Night Fundraiser Set for Dec 9 at WYC

The Winthrop Charities, led by U.S. Olympic hockey captain Mike Eruzione and family, will hold its fifth annual Comedy Night fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Winthrop Yacht Club.

There will be a social hour with hors d’ouevres from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a show featuring three well-known Boston comedians. Musical entertainment will follow the show.

Eruzione said the event is Winthrop Charities’  major fundraiser for the year. Proceeds will go to various organizations in Winthrop.

In the past, Winthrop Charities has donated generously to the weight room at Winthrop High School, CASA, the Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center, school programs, families in need, and to student-athletes to defray the cost of the user fee.

Eruzione is the director of special outreach at Boston University where he played Division 1 college hockey for the Terriers. Eruzione rose to international fame when he led the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team to the gold medal, scoring the winning goal against the Soviet Union team in the medal round. Sports Illustrated selected the achievement as the “Greatest Sports Moment of the 20th Century.”  Two movies, “Miracle on Ice” and “Miracle” were made about the team and its incredible journey to the gold medal in Lake Placid.

Tickets are $50 per person. To purchase tickets, contact Mike Eruzione at 617-353-6020. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
