Bands Compete in Concert Festival, Earn Medals

On Saturday, March 24, the Winthrop Middle/High School Concert Band and the Winthrop Middle/High School Select Band competed at the MICCA (Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association) Concert Festival.

The three-day festival is an annual event with over 12,000 student participants. The Middle/High School Concert Band was awarded a High Bronze Medal, mere points from Silver for their performance. The Select Band, which students must audition for, earned a Silver Medal for their performance.

“The band program has made tremendous gains since it was made available to Winthrop students in 2013,” said President of the Winthrop Music Parents, Erica Gore. “They continuously receive well deserved recognition in state competition such as MICCA. The kids and instructors should be incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication.”
