ON DEAN’S LIST AT DEANS

Dean College is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Carsley of Winthrop has earned a place on the Dean’s List for the Spring 2018 semester.

Founded in 1865, Dean College is a private, residential college located in Franklin Massachusetts, 45 minutes from Boston, Massachusetts, and Providence, Rhode Island. Dean College offers baccalaureate degrees, associate degree programs, as well as a robust schedule of part-time continuing and professional education credit and certificate programs throughout the calendar year.

More than 2,000 Coastal Carolina University students were named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2018 semester. Students who make the Dean’s List have achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher during the semester. CCU has a student population of 10,600.

Coastal Carolina University offers baccalaureate degrees in 74 major fields of study. Among CCU’s 21 graduate-level programs are 18 master’s degrees, two educational specialist degrees, and the Ph.D. in marine science: coastal and marine systems science. Coastal Carolina University was founded in 1954 as Coastal Carolina Junior College and became an independent state university in 1993.

 

FORD GRADUATES FROM SALVE REGINA

Jessica Ford of Winthrop, was awarded a Bachelor of  Science in accounting. during Salve Regina University’s 68th  commencement on Sunday, May 20.

Salve Regina President Jane Gerety conferred 785 degrees in total,  including 560 bachelor’s degrees, 212 master’s degrees and 13 doctoral degrees.

Dr. Roger Mandle, Newport Restoration Foundation board president who is an  expert in strategic planning for museums and universities, addressed the  graduating class received an honorary degree. Also receiving an honorary  degree was local philanthropist Hope H. “Happy” van Beuren, founder and  chair emerita of the van Beuren Charitable Foundation.

Salve Regina University is a Catholic, coeducational university founded in  historic Newport, R.I., by the Sisters of Mercy. Accredited by the New  England Association of Schools and Colleges, the university offers a  comprehensive education with a liberal arts foundation that fosters the  development of each student’s individual talents. More than 2,700  undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled from across the U.S. and  around the world. It is home to the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy a multidisciplinary research center focused at  the intersection of politics, policies and ideas.

The following students graduated from the University of New Hampshire in May 2018. Students who received the honor of summa cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.85-4.0; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.65-3.84; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.50-3.64. Students are only graduated after the Registrar’s Office has certified that all degree requirements have been successfully completed. Participating in the commencement ceremony is the act of honoring and celebrating academic achievement.

Class of 2018 Graduates from Northeast Metro Tech

On Friday, June 1, graduates from 15 different vocations were celebrated and received their diplomas during a graduation ceremony at Breakheart Stadium.

Superintendent David DiBarri encouraged students to seek out leadership opportunities as they grow in their professional and personal lives — by pursuing management roles, joining their trade’s union or becoming a coach of their favorite sport.

“The United States is still the greatest country on earth but it is up to you and future generations to ensure that we continue to get better and better,” Superintendent DiBarri said. “Please remember that you will always be a member of the Northeast family. It is our hope that in the years to come that all of you will have some connection to Northeast.”

Quoting Jeffrey Selingo, a best selling author who focuses on higher education, Principal Scuzzarella stated that Northeast students are “T-shaped.” This means they have a deep understanding of one subject, and also have the ability to work across challenging subject areas.

“I am confident that you are well prepared to be the next generation that keeps our country strong,” she said. “Your teachers and I couldn’t be more proud of you T’s. Congratulations Class of 2018!”

Salutatorian Raymond Borden, of Winthrop, spoke in rhymes about his time at Northeast, paying tribute to a fellow salutatorian, Dr. Seuss.

“You’re sad that you’re leaving, it’s a shame you have to go, but no more home work or classwork, how could you say no?” Borden said to his peers. “…You did it, and whether by stumble or stride, you’ll do what you have to to get by. The brain is not for getting A’s and B’s, but for seizing lifetime opportunities. That’s my knowledge I impart to you, and with my final rhyme, I bid thee adieu.”
