Student Thrives in a Structured Environment

Seventeen-year-old Jared LaVigueur has discovered the joy of responsibility and the satisfaction in following a structured schedule. Having started his first job at the Winthrop Marketplace in early July, LaVigueur, a senior at Winthrop High School (WHS), is learning about the rewards associated with hard work in all aspects of his life.

“Jared has been a huge asset to our company since he came aboard,” said store manager, Chris Wallerce. “He has picked up his job responsibilities very quickly and is always willing to work extra shifts and help out when called upon.”

In addition to his job at the Marketplace, LaVigueur is the editor-in-chief of the high school’s yearbook committee and a basketball player at Winthrop High School. He was also inducted as the National Honor Society Treasurer by his classmates.

What are your responsibilities at the Marketplace?

My duties consist of stocking the shelves when products are running low, being sure all of the carriages are in the store at the end of the night, and helping customers find the things that they are looking for.

What do you love about working there?

I love working with all of my coworkers, especially when I’m on the closing shift and I like having to follow a structured schedule and all of the responsibilities that come with it.

What is your favorite subject?

I have enjoyed all of my math classes throughout high school, but my favorite class was statistics in junior year. It helped point me in the direction as to what area I’d like to study in the future.

What are your future educational and career goals?

My top college choices right now are Duke, Northwestern, Syracuse, and BU. I want to major in statistics and minor in finance. My career goal is to eventually work for a professional sports team as a statistician.
